Meyer Luskin ’49
A Southern California business leader, philanthropist and UCLA alumnus, Meyer Luskin is passionate about UCLA's role as a public resource and agent for social mobility. He has been the chairman, CEO and president of Scope Industries since 1961. Its operational subsidiary, ReConserve, Inc., produces a high-caloric animal feed supplement from food waste and agricultural by-products—essentially a recycling process. Luskin is founder of several companies and has been on the boards of various entities, including companies on the New York Stock exchange, American Stock Exchange, and NASDAQ. He is currently a member of the board of directors of OSI, Inc., a NASDAQ company in the security and healthcare industries, and serves on their executive and compensation committees.
Luskin is a director and formerly Chair of the Board of Advisors of the UCLA-Santa Monica Hospital, a director and formerly Chair of the Board of Directors of the Orthopaedic Institute for Children, a board director of the Jazz Bakery, the Alliance College Ready Public Schools, the UCLA Luskin School of Public Affairs, the Luskin Center for Innovation, and the UCLA Foundation. He also serves on the UCLA College Centennial Campaign Committee.
In 2011, he and his wife, Renee, established the annual Luskin Lecture for Thought Leadership, which enables the College of Letters and Science to bring world leaders to campus to stimulate dialogue on pressing national and global issues among scholars and the Los Angeles community.
Luskin holds a B.A. in economics from UCLA and an M.B.A. from Stanford University.
