On June 16, 2007 one graduating senior will deliver a five-minute address at the Department's commencement celebration. Students who are interested in being selected should prepare the exact text that they propose to deliver (2-3 double-spaced pages maximum) and submit it to either Paul Padilla or Hadley Dick (6248 & 6250 Bunche Hall) no later than

Friday, May 11th

The speech should reflect the student's experiences at UCLA and/or offer a message of greeting to the assembled graduates and their families. A short list of three finalists will be selected and invited to deliver their speeches before the Department's selection committee. The committee will then make its final decision and announce its choice for the commencement speaker during the week of May 21.

Only graduating History majors are eligible. The decision of the selection committee is final. Speeches will be evaluated for form as well as for content.

Questions should be directed to Paul Padilla or Hadley Dick.
