Gloria Steinem Lecture Kicks Off Fall Events Calendar

Over 400 students, faculty, and guests attended.

On Sunday, October 7 the Department kicked off its Fall events calendar with “Women’s Bodies, Women’s Votes,” a lecture by feminist activist Gloria Steinem. Over 400 students, faculty, and guests flocked to UCLA’s Broad Art Center to hear her remarks on reproductive rights in November’s election.

Ms. Steinem, invited to campus by Professor Ellen DuBois (pictured) , also participated in a lengthy Q & A session with attendees. This talk was the first of two Fall events related to the Presidential election; the next is October 17th’s Alden-Berg Distinguished Faculty Symposium: “The Presidential Election: Three Historians’ Perspectives,” which includes Professor Ellen DuBois, Professor Robin D.G. Kelley, and Professor Sanjay Subrahmanyam. Professor Mary Yeager will moderate.
